Dear Superintendent Thomas-Manning and Board of Education,
I am 6th grade student at Baldwin Road Junior High, and although I am not old enough to vote for the Board of Education members, I am old enough to understand what is happening in our community. I love Reynoldsburg. I have gone to Reynoldsburg schools since kindergarten. I think our community wants the best for their family, friends and most of all our teachers.

Our teachers work so hard to teach us kids, they deserve the respect and kindness just as much as we do. The class sizes put way to much stress on the teachers. The teachers don’t need to go home and grade 180 papers a night. That takes time away from their own families. The class size also effects the students. When there are a lot of student in my class I know that I can’t concentrate and it’s hard for me to work. The teachers also have to take time out of teaching to manage poor behavior, (let’s face it, when there is more of us it gets a little rowdy.)
The teachers don’t need to be paid by our test scores. Let’s say a teacher has a class that has kids that can’t learn as easily. When the OAA comes around, and the students that have trouble, get below proficient. The teachers have been working their hardest to teach them. It’s not fair to the teachers to be working hard, then be told it’s not good enough. Kids come to school in different situations, their home life, family, friends, etc. All of these can affect how they take tests. Could you take a test if your dad went to jail? Or if you grandma just passed away? Kids that deal with these conundrums, have a hard time taking tests. The teacher have to make a living too.
These situations in our community effects all of us. If the teachers go on strike, it gives our schools a bad reputation. With the reputation, no one would want to move here. The business would shut, and entrepreneurs wouldn’t want to come here either. Along with all of that, we will lose citizens, teachers, and students. Then that makes a whole other problem, people will leave Reynoldsburg, and then no one would want to come. Our community would legitimately be falling apart.
I don’t think you notice what this is going to do to our community. I love Reynoldsburg, and I would hate to see it fall apart just because of a disagreement. We are Raiders. Together we are Raider strong!
Thank you for considering a perspective of a student, in the district you serve.
Sincerely,
Lauren Miars
