I come before you this evening also looking toward the future. It has been a very difficult summer and fall, and the wounds are still very raw. They are raw and open – searing and stinging – still. But regardless, I and others look toward the future as we look forward to change.
Many of us have said, over and over again throughout this whole ordeal in our attempt to look for a silver lining, that our community has been awakened. We have joined together and found our voice. We have united in our desire to do what is best for our children and their education. We have united in our desire to support high quality education -- and not just education that is smart for the pocketbook, or that which draws accolades, or puts us on the cutting edge.
As parents and community members, we came together and formed a grassroots organization called Raider Strong. It became our motto – something to live by. We communicated, we discussed, we rallied, we wrote, we advocated, and we spoke. We voiced our desires as the stakeholders of this community. Our voices crossed party lines, school buildings, and city blocks and city streets. And as the weeks wore on, we became united.
In an effort to maintain that level of unity and community awareness, we felt the need to make Raider Strong more permanent – an even stronger voice in this community.
Raider Strong was created to support excellence and high quality education in the Reynoldsburg City School District. And in the interest of excellence for all children, we sought to ensure that a high quality, respectful environment exists within Reynoldsburg’s schools by placing our children as the number one priority in all matters related to education, and by playing an integral part in the decision-making process in the Reynoldsburg City School District.
So as part of that continued commitment, we have taken our grassroots organization one step further and officially registered Raider Strong as a Political Action Committee. In this way, we hope to be a strong, organized, and vocal presence in Reynoldsburg for years to come.
We hope that the awaking we have experienced over the past six months will move forward with this PAC as we continue to communicate and advocate in a much more organized matter.
As a PAC, we look forward to working with district’s administration, the board of education, and our teachers in the years to come.
