A group of 40 or so Reynoldsburg residents, parents and educators met on August 5th 2014 to discuss how to encourage a stronger community voice in the guidance of our schools. The crisis in teacher contract negotiations is the spark, but we all agreed that this reflects a need for wider community engagement and clearer information about the directions and challenges of our schools. CARE is meant to be an informal community forum that seeks to be constructive, solution-focused, and
seeking what is best for our children. The main priority is to help members of the Reynoldsburg community be informed and engaged.
We are still in the process of deciding how to work together, so please stay posted. Please also bear in mind that while this group is very appreciative and supportive of our teachers here in Reynoldsburg, it is not a monolithic group. Its purpose is not to align itself with one or other side in the current contract negotiations. It just so happens that a great many parents and other community members believe strongly that fiscal responsibility is not inconsistent with treating teachers as partners in the development of district policy and for some years now this partnership has been eroded, to the detriment of our schools and our community. The Board and schools administration along with teachers and support staff have done great work in the past and we do not want to see it jeopardized.
This group has scheduled meetings on the 4th Tuesday of each month at 7 pm in Fritz Hall at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1200 Waggoner Road.
